These roles will be based in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch across four of our business units here at KiwiRail: Rolling Stock and Asset Services (RSAS), Capital Projects and Asset Development (CPAD), Rail Operations Engineering and Property.

 

Te whiwhinga mahi: The opportunity we have

 

RSAS: As an Engineering Intern within Rolling Stock Asset Services (RSAS), you'll work with the team who manages the full life cycle of our rolling stock (locomotives, wagons and passenger cars) including fleet planning, engineering, procurement, commissioning, maintenance and asset management.

CPAD: As an Engineering Intern within the Capital Projects and Asset Development (CPAD) team, you will be immersed into the lifecycle phases of some of our major projects. In Auckland, we have multiple programmes of work including Wiri to Quay Park, Papakura to Pukekohe and supporting parts of the City Rail Link Project and Rolling Stock Procurement. In the Lower North Island, we have the Wellington Metro Upgrade Programme and Project iReX (our new ferries and terminal infrastructure).

Engineering: As an Engineering Intern, you will be directly supporting our strong and diverse multi-discipline rail Engineering (rail-track, civil, structures, traction electrical, signals, control systems) to deliver professional services to a vast portfolio of rail infrastructure renewal and upgrade projects.

Property: KiwiRail is one of New Zealand's largest landowners and a significant landlord with 18,000ha of land, more than 1500 buildings and a property portfolio worth $3.6 billion. As an Intern, you'll be working primarily with our resource management team as well as the broader Property team, which covers Property Development, Acquisitions and Disposals, Resource Management, Iwi Engagement, Leasing and Facilities Management on a range of matters relating to our portfolio and major projects.

We are looking for energetic, ambitious and talented students and we are interested in talking to those who have completed at least one year of studies/are working towards a degree in:

  • Mechanical Engineering (Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch)
  • Mechatronics Engineering (Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch)
  • Electrical Engineering (Auckland, Wellington)
  • Civil Engineering (Auckland or Wellington)
  • Business Management/Commerce or Supply Chain (Wellington)
  • Property, Planning or related field (Auckland)

 

Additionally, you will have:

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships quickly and effectively
  • A curious, practical, and innovative mindset
