We have opportunities for Mechanical Engineers to join our Upper North Island Rolling Stock Maintenance team in Mt Maunganui.  Penal rates are paid for night and weekend shifts.  Overtime is available as the business requires and arranged by mutual agreement.  The KiwiRail / RMTU MECA offers generous leave provisions which also includes Long Service, Shift Leave and Retirement Leave.

 

Working as a Mechanical Engineer, you will be kept busy in our depot with the inspection, servicing and maintenance of our rolling stock fleets, predominantly Wagons. The primary focus of this role is to carry out the various maintenance checks and repairs as set out in the Maintenance Plan to the standards required in the Mechanical Codes and Instructions, ensuring the assets reliability and availability.  These are very hands-on roles, working as part of our diverse team of mechanical engineers at Mt Maunganui, with individuals experience in the rail industry ranging from 1 year to 40 years.  Our Mt Maunganui team forms part of our Rolling Stock Asset Services Group and the wider KiwiRail Whanau.

You will have excellent interpersonal skills, be highly enthusiastic and enjoy a role that includes following procedures, fault finding, problem solving and fixing.  

 

  • Trade Qualified or experience and/or proven mechanical background e.g., fitting, coachbuilder, automobile, machine upgrade, fabrication, boilermaker or welding
  • Previous exposure to a heavy trade or automobile industry, machine upgrades, or experience working with rail or automotive equipment, ships or similar is ideal
  • A current and valid Class 1 NZ driver's licence
  • High level of physical fitness, team spirit and be Health and Safety focused.
