Even during level 4 our essential workers are busy keeping goods moving around the country to cover New Zealand’s needs.  Our safety protectors ensure our essential workers are kept safe and things go according to plan to minimise the disruption to trains.

 

Your Role:

 

As KiwiRail grows we need to focus on the future, that is where you come in.  Based at our offices in Onehunga, Auckland this highly technical leadership role will cover our Protection planning requirements from Pukekohe up to the top of Northland.  With 6 direct reports you will play a key role in maximising the safety and productivity of the majority of the region’s field teams, projects and third parties who have been given approval to access the rail corridor.

 

As we get busier your leadership will be paramount in providing a plan on how we manage access for the people who need to access our rail corridor.  Your forward-thinking preparation will make things run more efficiently and effectively for our delivery team to execute.

 

Your Skills:

 

Planning experience preferably within a rail protection environment, along with previous experience managing a team will be essential. This along the following proven skills will see you in good stead:

 

  • Strong leadership skills
  • Sound operational decision making in a safety critical environment
  • Process improvement experience
  • Solutions-focused attitude
  • Can manage under intense pressure
  • Able to look after multiple stakeholders and customers concurrently; all with competing demands

 

Finally, depending on your skill set there may also be a need for you to work weekends on a roster basis as and when required.
