Come join us as a Second Cook/Chef on the Interislander. Work with an amazing team, support the delivery of outstanding quality meals and provide an excellent customer experience. 


These are Live-on-Board roles; work 7 days on and 7 days off (Weds-Weds). 


Fixed-term until 30th April 2023

We have exciting opportunities for Second Cooks/Chefs to join our on-board crew permanently. This position provides you with the opportunity to use your cooking qualifications, along with your knowledge of the hospitality industry to provide our customers and crew with an exceptional food experience across our iconic fleet or ferries.


As a Second Cook on one of the Interislander ferries no day is the same. One day you could find yourself cooking for up to 80 hungry crew members who are looking forward to some hot nutritious home cooked food, or feeding excited children on their holidays, some of their favourite Kiwi delights. On other days you could find yourself assigned to look after our passengers in our Premium Lounge, where the passenger’s expectations are higher, and you will be able to show your flair and creativity with the food you are serving.

With exposure to a wide range of cooking styles, practices and techniques, including dessert preparation, pastry, baking and volume preparation and service, you will also have:

  • Either a National Certificate in Hospitality (Cookery) Level 3

              or a formal cookery qualification

  • High attention to detail
  • A passion for quality produce and service with culinary expertise
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Excellent communication skills and be a team player
  • The ability to demonstrate the maintenance of high standards of food preparation
