How do I apply for a job?
All our current vacancies are posted on our careers page and all applications need to be submitted online. You can click on “View all Jobs” on the home screen to see all our vacancies.

What if I don’t see a job I'm interested in?
If you don’t see a role posted that you’re interested in, you can Join Talent Community and be automatically contacted once a suitable position is advertised.

I cannot attach my CV what should I do?
This could be because the file is too large or is not in a supported format, which include:

  • MS Word (*.doc, *.docx)
  • Adobe (*.pdf)
  • Text files (*.txt)
  • Images (*.png, *.jpg, *jpeg, *.gif)
  • Files cannot be larger than 5MB.
     

When will I hear from someone about my application?
You will receive an email straight away from us acknowledging your application. After this, someone from our recruitment team will be in touch by either phone or email to advise if successful and next steps. Please note that due to the volume of applications we receive, we may not be able to provide personalised feedback on your application.

Who is eligible to work at KiwiRail?
All successful candidates will be required to show entitlement to work in New Zealand prior to commencing employment with us.

 

 

Application process

Submit your application

Upload your CV and covering letter outlining why you are a fit for the role you are applying for and KiwiRail.

Think of our key requirements outlined in the advertisement and our KiwiRail values when drafting your cover letter. 

 

Phone screening

If you are selected to progress to the next stage, we’ll be in touch with a few questions for you to answer over the phone. This conversation generally takes around 10-15 minutes. If you are not successful to progress to the next stage, you will receive an email advising you of this and we encourage you to continue to review our careers site for other suitable opportunities.

Interview

During your interview, you will meet with hiring manager and at least one other person. We will ask a mixture of behavioral and competency-based questions, designed to assess your suitability for the role and alignment to our KiwiRail values.

There will also be an opportunity for you to ask any questions that you might have. 

Pre-employment Checks

If you are selected to move forward from here, we will complete pre-employment vetting which includes:
    •    Reference checks with current or past Managers 
    •    Credit check (role dependent)
    •    Criminal conviction checks
    •    Drug and alcohol testing
    •    Medical asasessment – fitness for work. 

Offer of Employment
