The Role:
As the General Manager - Environment, you will lead KiwiRail’s environmental management activities, focusing on strategy, standards, risk management, reporting, and fostering a culture of accountability. This senior role is pivotal in embedding environmental best practices across the organisation, providing expertise to the Executive Committee, and advising on environmental matters. You’ll manage the Environmental Advisory Team, ensuring compliance, driving continuous improvement, and influencing decisions that align with KiwiRail's commitment to sustainability and innovation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and implement KiwiRail’s environmental strategy, establishing best practices and fostering continuous improvement.
- Build an inclusive, high-performing Environmental Advisory team, promoting engagement and professional development.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, prepare governance reporting for the Executive and Board, and manage environmental risk.
- Partner with internal teams and external stakeholders to integrate environmental considerations into all business processes and projects.
- Develop the SHE Strategic Plan and Environmental Risk Strategy to align with KiwiRail’s operational and environmental goals.
About You:
You bring 10+ years of experience in environmental management, ideally in transport, logistics, or construction, with a solid understanding of environmental legislation and compliance. You are a people-focused leader with expertise in environmental risk management and strategic planning, known for fostering a culture of safety, respect, and innovation.
