KiwiRail's Network Capacity Planning Team works hard behind the scenes to manage the vital aspects of our business that allow our services to run optimally and safely.  We have a 2-year Fixed Term opportunity for a Network Capacity and Access Planner operating out of our modern Sylvia Park offices and Westfield depot in Otahuhu, Auckland.


Your Role:

You will be responsible for regional access planning across several Projects as well as maintenance activities across the Auckland region.  Planning activities (anything from 1 month to 3-year time frame) should be conflict-free and where there is an impact to stakeholders be thoroughly investigated, optimised, and clearly communicated.


Key to this role will be ensuring that the capacity plan for the region delivers the best outcome for the business and a safe network by prioritising access for capital projects and maintenance work, against the requirements of the metro, scenic and freight train plans and 3rd party operators.


Another vital component of this role is stakeholder engagement. You will need to manage customer expectations, lead regional stakeholder communication and negotiation between, capital projects, operators, and maintenance providers, and requires an understanding of service agreements between operators.


Your Skills:

You will have planning experience at a mid-level ideally in the infrastructure or logistics industry.  Planning experience within the Rail industry will be advantageous.


Strong relationship and communication skills, with demonstrated ability of building relationships, influencing collaboratively, and engaging with leaders and stakeholders to enable the delivery of effective outcomes will be essential.


You will also need to demonstrate a flexible and creative approach to problem solving, good judgment and a proactive, positive “can do” attitude.


Experience in achieving work programmes, meeting deadlines, and managing conflicting requirements in a dynamic work environment will see you thrive in this role.
