He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role:

KiwiRail is in a phase of significant change to modernise and grow our rail and Interislander ferry services. Pricing sits at the centre of how our Freight business wins, keeps and grows customers, and we are growing our pricing team to take this capability further.

As our Pricing Analyst, you will take a customer or business opportunity, work out what the business needs, decide how to analyse it, test assumptions with Sales, Finance and Operations, and recommend a pricing approach. Your work will feed directly into tenders, contract renewals and annual price reviews. You will also help shape the tools, processes and controls we use to price freight.

Key accountabilities include:

• Own the pricing analysis for assigned tenders, contract renewals and customer opportunities, and present clear options, trade-offs and a recommended approach.
• Develop and improve the Freight pricing model, rate schedules and pricing tools with the Pricing Manager, so they keep pace with the business.
• Track effective rates, discounts, yield and margin to spot revenue leakage, risks and opportunities, and turn these into practical insights.
• Strengthen pricing governance and processes, including approvals, rate implementation checks and audit trails.

Knowledge and experience

• 3 to 5 years' experience in pricing, commercial analysis, revenue management, financial analysis or a similar commercial role.
• Experience building and improving pricing or commercial models, including setting assumptions and testing scenarios.
• Sound commercial judgement, with the ability to weigh up costs, volumes, margins and customer needs together.
• Confidence presenting options and recommendations to people with different areas of expertise.
• Solid Excel skills and experience with reporting and analytical tools.
• A tertiary qualification in Economics, Finance, Commerce, Business Analytics, Mathematics, Statistics or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.

Qualifications

Essential:

• Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Commerce, Business Analytics, Mathematics, Statistics, or another relevant discipline.

Nice to have

• Experience in freight, logistics, transport or a similar commercial environment.
• Experience with Power BI, SQL, SAP or pricing systems.
• Additional study or professional development in pricing, data analytics or commercial management.
