He whakamārama mo te tūranga mahi | About the role:

Reporting to the General Manager Procurement, the primary focus of this role is to provide thought leadership and strategic spend management across the plan-source-manage life cycle.  You will distil data from multiple sources to present actionable insights and develop and maintain a network of external market data sources to drive value opportunities and reduce risk. You will have strong people management skills to coach and lead two direct reports.  

You will be at the forefront of driving the Group Procurement strategic roadmap and ensure KiwiRail delivers business obligations whilst ensuring and managing business and commercial risk.  You will establish and maintain long-term working relationships with suppliers and develop and implement best practice procurement frameworks and tools.

As the Procurement Category Manager – Energy and Engineering, you will have very strong commercial acumen and be viewed as a commercial subject matter expert to the business.  With an excellent analytical aptitude, you will be comfortable in dealing with ambiguity and can act or make recommendations based on incomplete and or imperfect data. You will have very strong influencing skills with the ability to present information to drive decisions and outcomes.

Key to your success will be:

• 5-10+ years’ relevant procurement experience in category and/or supplier relationship management
• 5+ years’ experience in sourcing and tendering
• 3+ years people management experience
• Ability to formulate, test and validate strategic hypothesis
• Very strong commercial acumen and ability to deal with ambiguity
• Proven planning skills and attention to detail
