He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role
As a Senior Track Engineer in our Network Readiness team, you’ll be at the forefront of transforming Aotearoa’s metro rail networks. Your expertise will support the safe design, maintenance, and upgrade of track infrastructure across the Auckland region.
You’ll provide technical leadership across inspections, design reviews, asset strategy, and incident response. In addition to supporting the development of technical documentation, standards, instructions and specifications, you will mentor junior engineers and collaborate closely with the delivery and engineering teams. This role is key to ensuring our assets meet the increasing demands of passenger and freight services, helping KiwiRail deliver high-performing and resilient rail infrastructure.

We’re looking for a trusted engineering professional who is passionate about infrastructure and driven to deliver results.
You’ll need:
- A tertiary qualification in civil or track engineering (or related discipline)
- Experience in railway infrastructure design, inspection, and maintenance
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- A collaborative approach to problem-solving and project delivery
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively present information and advice to a range of audiences
- The ability to mentor and support junior team members
- Familiarity with asset management practices and safety standards
- Project management experience and relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) are advantageous
