As the Traction Competency Lead, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring our Traction personal are competent, capable, and confidante. You’ll oversee our traction linesman mechanic and Traction Electrician training and competency programme, ensuring it meets national operational needs and supports regulatory compliance.
This role involves collaborating across our business to identify training needs, designing engaging materials, and coaching team members to meet and exceed KiwiRail’s safety and performance standards. You’ll be part of the Auckland Metro Traction team, helping us deliver high-quality, hands-on learning experiences that support both new and experienced personal. Your role will also require you to assess competency and organize training run by other work parties.

We’re looking for someone with:
- Deep experience working with Overhead Catenary System.
- Proven ability to teach and support teams, ensuring a positive learning environment.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
- Organized, proactive and safety-focused mindset.
- Familiarity with Overhead line and electrical regulations and operational standards is desirable.
- A full New Zealand driver’s licence is required.
