KiwiRail is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Traction Supervisor to lead and inspire our Traction team in ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of our Overhead Traction systems. This day-shift role is crucial to maintaining our network operations and requires an EWRB practicing licence.

About the Role

As the Traction Supervisor, you will oversee a team of Traction Line Mechanics, implementing a comprehensive maintenance program and ensuring the seamless operation of all Overhead Traction systems. You’ll play a hands-on role in providing technical guidance, troubleshooting, and responding to emergencies.

Your leadership will foster a culture of safety, productivity, and excellence, aligning with KiwiRail’s commitment to safety and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise the Traction team in performing maintenance, repairs, and installations.
• Establish and implement a reliable Traction maintenance program.
• Ensure all team members are fully trained and competent in maintaining the Traction Asset.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to staff.
• Investigate system failures and take immediate corrective actions.
• Maintain accurate records and reports.
• Promote a strong health and safety culture within the team.

What You’ll Bring

• Minimum 7 years of experience working in Traction systems.
• Proven experience leading and supervising teams.
• Registered Traction Line Mechanic (Limitation 3) with a current EWRB practicing licence.
• Strong knowledge of Overhead Traction equipment and rail infrastructure standards.
• Competence in working at heights and in various weather conditions.
• Excellent problem-solving, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to health and safety practices.
• Desirable Forklift operating licence.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel.
