As a Locomotive Service Person you will be responsible for the general maintenance of our Locomotives. Under the guidance of fellow Mechanical Engineers and Team Leaders you will carry out oil and water servicing, safety inspections, refueling, and a variety of initial frontline maintenance and repairs.


We currently have an opportunity to work on and around our Locomotives will provide you with new skills and training to forge your career in the rail industry.  Working at KiwiRail you'll join a supportive team and form part of a wider team responsible for ensuring the reliability and availability of our fleet.

  • A mechanical aptitude with a thirst for knowledge and learning
  • Prior experience in a mechanical environment, preferably within heavy industry or the transport industry
  • A strong commitment to Health and Safety in the workplace
  • The proficiency to work to deadlines and thrive under pressure
  • Good communication skills and a positive 'can-do' attitude.
  • The ability to work rostered shifts
  • A full clean NZ Driver's License, F endorsement desirabl


This is a hands-on role, where you will need to have a reasonable level of physical fitness. You will be a team player who gets along well with others, and will need to be available to work on a 24/7 roster that will include weekends as well as day, afternoon and night shifts on a rotational basis. In return you will receive benefits including penal rates for working outside normal business hours such as nights, Saturdays, and Sundays.
