  • Full Time - Full time, permanent 80 Hours per Fortnight 10 days on, 4 days off (Tuesday – Thursday) 

 

Position Description  

 

He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role: 

As a Plant Fitter / Fitter Operator (Level 4), you will play a key role in maintaining and repairing rail plant and equipment across the rail network. 

This is a hands-on role where you will operate, service, and repair specialised machinery to ensure it is safe, reliable, and ready for use. You will work with limited supervision and be part of a skilled team that keeps operations running smoothly. 

The role involves regular travel and working in a range of outdoor conditions. 

What you’ll be doing: 

  • Maintain, service, and repair track plant and equipment 
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings and diagnostic information 
  • Monitor equipment performance and report faults or issues 
  • Support planning by ensuring required parts and materials are available 
  • Complete maintenance documentation and records accurately 
  • Participate in team discussions and toolbox meetings

We are looking for someone who is practical, reliable, and a strong team player. 

You will have: 

  • Experience in a mechanical or plant maintenance role
  • Proven ability to diagnose faults and carry out repairs
  • Confidence using tools, machinery, and equipment
  • Strong commitment to health and safety
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions
  • Willingness to travel and stay away from home when required

It would be an advantage if you also have: 

  • Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, or auto electrical systems 
  • Rail industry experience 
  • Class 2 driver licence 

Qualifications: 

  • Trade qualification in mechanical engineering or a related field (preferred)
