He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role:

As a Sales & Service Consultant, you will be the first point of contact for many of our customers, helping them plan and enjoy their journey with Great Journeys of New Zealand. Based in Christchurch, on a 7-day rotating roster work environment, this role combines customer service, sales, and operational support.

You will assist retail, wholesale, and group customers and their agents, process bookings accurately, and provide expert travel advice. You will also support passengers at Christchurch Railway Station and help ensure a smooth check-in experience.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing outstanding customer service across phone, email, and face-to-face interactions
  • Processing bookings, changes, refunds, and travel documentation accurately and on time
  • Promoting and upselling Great Journeys products and services
  • Assisting customers with itinerary planning and travel enquiries
  • Communicating timetable changes and service disruptions clearly and professionally
  • Supporting seat planning and operational coordination for scenic train services
  • Reconciling daily cash and EFTPOS transactions and completing required reporting
  • Working closely with onboard, operations, sales, and customer care teams

We are looking for someone who enjoys helping people and can stay organised in a busy customer-focused environment.

You will bring:

  • A proven track record of delivering excellent customer service, ideally in a frontline role
  • Strong sales and communication skills
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Good computer skills and experience using reservation or booking systems
  • Knowledge of New Zealand tourism destinations and visitor activities
  • A professional, friendly, and solutions-focused approach
  • The ability to work well within a team and contribute ideas for service improvement

It would be helpful if you also have:

  • Experience in the travel or tourism industry
  • A recognised travel industry qualification
  • Additional language skills
