  • Position located in Christchurch, servicing the South Island (Picton, West Coast, Invercargill)

  • $29.68 per hour, plus overtime, time-and-a-half on Saturdays, and double-time on Sundays. Current roster: 10 days on, 4 days off (Tuesday–Thursday)

 

Position Description

 

He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role:

As a Trainee Track Machine Operator, you’ll support the safe and efficient operation of Track Machines across the rail network. You’ll learn how to maintain track quality, assist with servicing and repairs, and follow clear work plans.
This hands-on role is outdoors, includes regular travel, and involves staying away from home. You’ll work in a supportive crew that puts safety first and helps keep our network moving.

Essential:

  • Strong commitment to safety and teamwork
  • Experience in manual or physical work
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather
  • Willingness to travel and stay away overnight
  • Reliable and responsible work habits
  • NCEA Level 1 Maths and English, or equivalent
  • Full, clean Class 1 driver licence
  • Basic computer literacy

Desirable:

  • Experience with machinery, track, or rail operations
  • Class 2 driver licence
