The Rolling Stock Asset Services (RSAS) group has overall responsibility and ownership for managing KiwiRail’s rolling stock assets: 

  • mainline and shunt locomotives
  • freight and specialist wagons
  • containers
  • passenger carriages
  • rolling stock vehicles. 

 

Your opportunity:

We have an apprenticeship opportunity based at our Hillside depot.

Rolling Stock and Asset Services (RSAS) is committed to maintain 10% of Trade staff in apprenticeships.

The apprenticeship will lead to a New Zealand Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering (General Engineering)

 

What’s involved:

The qualification requires approximately 300 credits and 6000-8000 hours of practical on job experience (3-4 Year)

To achieve this, you will need to be willing and able to dedicate study time throughout this apprenticeship and attend Block courses as required, these are generally in your 2nd and 3rd year of training.

 

To be successful:

  • You need to be interested in mechanical engineering
  • Motivated and self-driven to complete online and on-job study assignment in the required timeframe and have thrust for knowledge and will to commit 3-4 years
  • Have good reliable Internet and access to a computer
  • Have NCEA level 1numeracy and Literacy
  • New Zealand Citizen or  permanent residency

RSAS will offer you the support and the scope of work and will ensure you are able to attend Block Course and complete On-Job assessments as required. This may require working in different locations and shift work to gain the required experience
