He whakamārama mo te tūranga mahi | About the role:

As the Signals Technician 2IC, you’ll be a key support for the day-to-day operation of our signalling assets—ensuring systems are maintained, installed, and repaired safely and efficiently. You’ll test and troubleshoot interlocking components, set up track circuits, and work closely with the wider team to keep our rail network running smoothly.  This is a hands-on, varied role. From time to time, you’ll step up to lead the team and oversee work planning and delivery. You’ll also contribute to on-the-job training and play an active part in our safety-first culture.

 

Ngā pukenga e rapu nei mātou | What (skills) you will bring:

 

We’re looking for someone who is reliable, adaptable, and takes pride in their work. Ideally, you will have:

 

  • Experience working as part of a technical or maintenance team
  • Completed training for Signals Technician Level 4 (or equivalent)
  • Confidence in reading technical drawings and working with rail signalling systems
  • Good communication skills and a strong sense of responsibility
  • A full Class 1 driver licence (Class 2 desirable)
  • Registration as a New Zealand Electrician (preferred)
  • First aid and CPR certificates (or willingness to obtain)

 

You’ll also need to be safety-focused and comfortable working outdoors in varied conditions, with some travel and overnight stays.

Note: The role is based in the Hamilton depot covering mainly Hamilton North however will be required to work in other teams from time to time.
