He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role:
As Te Huia Team Leader, you will lead the day-to-day operation of inter-regional commuter and long-distance passenger services from Hamilton. You will ensure services run safely on time, and to a high customer standard.
You will provide visible leadership at Hamilton Station, supporting onboard crew and working closely with internal teams and external partners. You will also play a key role in managing disruptions, coordinating responses, and keeping customers informed.
This role combines operational oversight, team leadership, and customer focus. You will help build a positive team culture while maintaining high safety and service standards.

We are looking for someone who can lead with clarity, support their team, and respond to changing situations.
- Experience in operations within a similar or related industry
- Experience with staff rostering in a unionised, shift-based environment
- Strong focus on safety, health, and wellbeing
- Proven ability to build positive working relationships
- Confidence using a range of IT systems
- Ability to communicate clearly and solve problems effectively
- A customer-focused approach, with experience in service delivery
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing conditions
- A current, full New Zealand driver’s licence
Desirable:
- Experience in tourism or passenger transport services
- Knowledge of New Zealand employment and health and safety legislation
- Relevant qualifications in customer service or operations
- Language skills, including Te Reo Māori or NZ Sign Language
