We're looking for a Trainee Signals Maintainer to join our Network Services team.

This is an excellent opportunity to begin a long-term career with KiwiRail. You'll receive structured training and on-the-job coaching while learning to maintain, test, inspect, and repair the signalling systems that help keep New Zealand's rail network operating safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities include:

• Assisting with the maintenance, testing, inspection, and repair of signalling equipment and level crossing systems
• Learning to identify faults and use testing equipment on signalling assets
• Reading and interpreting technical drawings and diagrams
• Supporting the installation and adjustment of signalling equipment and track circuits
• Completing technical documentation and maintaining accurate records 
• Participating in formal training programmes and on-the-job development activities
• Promoting KiwiRail's Zero Harm safety culture in everything you do

We're looking for someone who enjoys practical, hands-on work and is motivated to learn a specialised trade.

You will bring:

• Experience working effectively as part of a team

• Experience in labouring, construction, electrical, mechanical, or other hands-on environments
• A positive attitude and willingness to learn
• Good communication and problem-solving skills
• A strong commitment to safety and quality

Essential requirements:

• NCEA Level 1 (or equivalent) in Maths, English, and Science
• Full New Zealand Class 1 Driver Licence

Desirable:

• Current First Aid and CPR Certificates
• Full Class 2 Driver Licence 
• Previous rail industry experience
• New Zealand Electrical Registration
