He whakamārama mo te tūranga mahi | About the role:
As a Trainee Structures Worker, you’ll be part of a close-knit maintenance team ensuring KiwiRail’s infrastructure remains safe and reliable. Working under the guidance of the Leading Structures Maintainer, you’ll assist with maintenance, repairs, and renewals across the rail network. Whether using tools to repair critical structures or contributing at team meetings, your work will help keep New Zealand moving. Safety is at the heart of everything we do, and you’ll play an essential role in creating a safe environment for your team, contractors, and the public.

 

Your key responsibilities will include:
•    Assisting with the maintenance and repair of rail structures
•    Using hand tools and learning how to apply them effectively on the job
•    Documenting work activities and maintaining accurate records
•    Supporting your team during toolbox discussions and decision-making.
•    Adhering to KiwiRail’s Zero Harm policies to prioritise safety at all times
•    Participating in on-the-job and formal training to gain the skills needed for this role

We’re looking for motivated individuals who thrive in a team environment and are eager to learn. 


You’ll bring:
•    A focus on safety, with a proactive approach to identifying risks
•    Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in all weather
•    Flexibility to travel and stay overnight for extended periods
•    A commitment to training and completing modules for the role
•    A current, clean Class 1 driver’s licence

 

While not essential, the following will set you apart
•    Previous experience in carpentry, construction, or manual labour
•    NCEA Level 1 in Maths and English (or equivalent)
•    A Class 2 driver’s licence and any relevant rail industry experience
