The opportunity we have 

We are looking for technical-minded individuals to join our Network Services team as Trainee Electrical Safety Observers. This is a safety-critical role ensuring safety protection for staff and contractors throughout the Wellington Electrified Network.

  • You will have an understanding of the hazards facing our Network Services Team. As a result, you'll need to be constantly aware of, and in control of, your surroundings ensuring safe systems are in play. You will hold our value of Care and Protect in high regard every day.
  • You will have experience in a highly disciplined environment with a strong health and safety culture.
  • You will understand the importance of identifying risks and following guidelines and policies correctly every time.  
  • You will be a critical point of contact for internal and external stakeholders therefore your ability to demonstrate a customer service-focused approach is essential.
  • Due to the nature of our business, you will have the flexibility to workdays and nights, you will play a key part in ensuring we are delivering results on time.  


What skills are we looking for:

  • Physically fit and agile
  • Ability to work outside in all weather
  • Ability to work non-standard hours as required (including nights and weekends)
  • Methodical work approach with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to interact constructively with staff/contractors
  • Ability to insist on correct safety behaviors when necessary in an appropriate manner
  • Ability to self-manage and motivate through long unsupervised periods
  • Experience with site safety plans and health and safety processes
  • Experience in working with plant or similar experience which gives confidence this can be gained
