As a Protection Advisor based in Wellington, you will provide technical advice and support to our Metro Network Protection team. Your work will help ensure safe access to the rail corridor for our teams, contractors, and the public.
- Provide specialist protection advice to support safe access across the rail corridor – including running single and multiple worksites
- Scope and audit worksites to ensure compliance with safety and protection standards
- Support field operations and planning to deliver effective, low‑disruption protection outcomes
- Training and Development (facilitate Undertake On the Job Training, send through weekly training reports/updates and On the Job Training components)
- Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners, offering guidance, reviewing safety plans and methods
- Contribute to training, competency development, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Champion safety leadership, supporting incident investigations and a proactive safety culture

- Experience in rail protection or a similar operational environment
- Knowledge of rail operations and worksite safety requirements
- Ability to assess sites and recommend suitable protection methods
- Experience auditing worksites and ensuring compliance with safety rules
- Confidence working with a range of people, including contractors and field teams
- Ability to contribute to planning, coordination, and problem-solving activities
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather and across varying hours, including nights or weekends
