He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role

As a Protection Planner, you’ll play a key part in keeping our people and projects safe on the network. Based in Palmerston North, you’ll support the Lower North Island Planning Team by coordinating and scheduling track protection for maintenance, projects, and third-party work.  You’ll help plan, review, and optimise work programmes so our teams can deliver safely and efficiently – minimising disruption to train services while ensuring full compliance with rail safety standards. This role sits at the heart of our network operations, connecting planners, project teams, and field staff to keep work moving smoothly and safely.

 

Ngā pukenga e rapu nei mātou | What you will bring

We’re looking for someone with strong planning skills and a safety-first mindset. You’ll also bring:

  • Proven experience in planning, scheduling, or project coordination – ideally in rail, infrastructure, or construction.
  • Strong analytical and organisational skills with attention to detail.
  • The ability to build relationships and collaborate across different teams and disciplines.
  • A proactive, solution-focused approach and the confidence to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Primavera P6, MS Project, or Excel.
  • A full NZ driver licence and willingness to travel occasionally.
