He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role:

 

As a Rail Bonder you will be working as part of the Traction Team to bond rails to set standards and manage bonding projects as directed.

 

Ensure work is carried out in a way which complies with all KiwiRail quality, safety and engineering standards.

 

 

Key accountabilities include:

  • Under supervision use and maintain test and measuring equipment
  • Under supervision inspect, install and maintain bonding to defined code and standards
  • Provide track protection
  • Operate hand tools in a safe manner
  • Understand and comply with operating safety rules
  • Complete forms and documents as and when required
  • Contribute to team decisions and Tool Box Meetings
  • Maintain a customer service focus and display professional behaviour when dealing with, associated client personnel, sub-contractors and members of the public.
  • Such other duties and responsibilities as the Company may require from time to time
  • Undertake both On The Job Training for the set designation plus attend training courses run by the company, or external agencies as and when required to fulfil the requirements of the position
  • Acquire On The Job Training competencies for the set position
  • Safety is the first priority of all rail employees on the national rail system
  • Responsible for complying with rail safety system standards, procedures and statutory requirements within your area of responsibility
  • Responsible for your own safety and that of other rail employees, contractors and visitors within your work environment
  • Responsible for the identification, reporting and initial control of any safety or environmental hazard identified within your area.
  • Ensure you clearly document your work activities and established files are clearly identified so others can find them.
  • All records are to be kept in KiwiRail’s filing system, including emails.
  • Ensure no records are removed or transferred from the filing area or any files are destroyed before the disposal date or without
  • Adhere to KiwiRail’s health and safety requirements and take responsible for maintaining a pro-active approach regarding both personal well-being as well as that of fellow employees, associated client personnel, sub-contractors and members of the public.
  • Report all accidents and incidents to your immediate supervisor within one hour.
  • Report immediately to the relevant authority any safety hazards that could or may result in injury to personnel or damage to property

 

 

Ngā pukenga e rapu nei mātou | What (skills) you will bring:

  • NCEA Level 1 in Maths, English and Science or equivalent
  • Full Class 2 driver’s licence
  • Experience of working as part of a team
  • Relevant experience of working in labouring or manual work
  • Understanding of basic technical information
  • Successfully complete all modules of OJT for a Trainee Bonder
  • Ability to read and understand drawings
  • Familiar with power tools such as drills, grinders, hydraulic crimp tools, etc
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather
  • Ability to travel and stay away overnight for extended periods
  • A demonstrated commitment to health and safety in the workplace
