He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role:
As a Structures Inspector, you’ll carry out inspections and audits across KiwiRail’s civil infrastructure – from bridges and tunnels to retaining walls and culverts. Your work ensures the integrity and safety of these vital structures by identifying faults, diagnosing risks, and planning the necessary repairs or maintenance. You’ll coordinate closely with engineers, field teams, and contractors to keep the network safe and compliant. This role also includes emergency inspections, short- and medium-term planning, and contributing to a collaborative and safety-first team culture.

We’re looking for someone who is safety-conscious, observant, and confident working both independently and with others.
You’ll need:
• Familiarity with timber, steel, and concrete structures
• Strong observational skills and attention to detail
• Experience in construction health and safety practices
• Understanding of engineering standards for structures
• Clear communication and leadership skills
• Ability to work at heights and travel as needed
It’s great if you also have:
• Advanced trade or relevant tertiary qualifications
• Experience in railway structures
• HT Class 2 driver’s licence or the ability to obtain one
