As a Track Inspector, you’ll play a vital role in protecting the rail corridor and ensuring the ongoing reliability of our infrastructure.

 

He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role:
As a Track Inspector, your job is to monitor and maintain the integrity of KiwiRail’s track assets. You’ll carry out scheduled inspections, identify and report any faults, and apply or adjust speed restrictions as needed. You’ll work closely with Train Control and engineering teams, supporting the planning of maintenance and responding to incidents when they arise. This is an active, hands-on role requiring field work in all weather conditions. You'll contribute to a safe rail network by providing timely technical assessments and supporting our field crews with clear guidance.

We’re looking for someone who is detail-focused, proactive, and committed to safety.

You’ll need:


•    Experience in rail track maintenance or inspection
•    Knowledge of engineering codes and safety standards
•    A strong focus on Zero Harm and safe work practices
•    Good communication and leadership skills
•    Confidence working both independently and as part of a team
•    Ability to travel and stay overnight when required

 

Desirable:
•    Operational certification to work on railways
•    HT Class 2 Licence or willingness to obtain it
•    Familiarity with technical systems and tools, including data entry and reporting
