He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role:

 

As a Trainee Track Worker, you’ll work as part of a KiwiRail maintenance team to safely carry out maintenance, repairs, and renewals of rail infrastructure.

 

Under the supervision of a Track Ganger or Senior Track Maintainer, you’ll complete tasks efficiently and to required standards. You’ll receive on-the-job training (OJT) and attend classroom sessions to build your skills and progress toward working independently.

 

Safety is at the heart of how KiwiRail operates. You’ll actively support a Safety Health & Wellbeing culture by participating in toolbox meetings, identifying and reporting hazards, and speaking up when unsure to keep yourself and your team safe.

Key Responsibilities & Requirements:

  • Assist with track maintenance, repairs, and renewals under supervision
  • Learn to safely use tools, plant, and complete required documentation
  • Participate in team decisions, toolbox meetings, and training (OJT)
  • Follow all safety standards, procedures, and compliance requirements
  • Identify and report hazards, incidents, and risks promptly
  • Maintain professional behaviour with colleagues, contractors, and the public
  • Work as part of a team and support a strong safety culture
  • Continue developing skills to progress into a Track Worker role

 

What you’ll bring:

  • Quick learner with a positive, “can do” attitude
  • Team-focused and safety-conscious
  • Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all conditions
  • Full Class 1 driver licence (Desirable)
  • Flexibility for shifts, travel, and callouts
