We're looking for a Procurement Specialist to join our team and help deliver effective procurement outcomes across KiwiRail.

You'll manage procurement activities from sourcing through to supplier management, ensuring we secure quality goods and services that deliver the best value. Working closely with internal stakeholders and suppliers, you'll identify business needs, negotiate commercial outcomes, and ensure procurement activities align with KiwiRail's policies and standards.

This role will suit someone who enjoys building strong relationships, solving problems, and driving continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing procurement strategies that deliver value and support business objectives
  • Sourcing and evaluating suppliers based on quality, cost, capability, and performance
  • Negotiating contracts and commercial agreements to achieve favourable outcomes
  • Partnering with internal stakeholders to understand procurement requirements
  • Monitoring procurement activities and identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Ensuring compliance with KiwiRail policies, procedures, and procurement frameworks
  • Resolving procurement issues and supplier-related queries in a timely manner
  • Keeping up to date with market conditions, industry trends, and procurement best practice

We're looking for a procurement professional who can build trusted relationships and deliver practical commercial outcomes.

You will bring:

  • Experience in procurement, supply chain management, or a related field
  • Strong negotiation and supplier relationship management skills
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong attention to detail and a focus on accuracy
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of procurement processes, systems, and best practice
  • Confidence using procurement systems and Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A collaborative approach and commitment to achieving positive outcomes

 

Previous experience working as a Procurement Specialist or in a similar role is desirable, particularly 2-5 years' experience in procurement or sourcing
