He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role:

Based in Christchurch, the Field Asset Engineer plays a key role in keeping our track infrastructure safe and reliable across the Upper South Island. You will manage asset condition, plan maintenance work, create work banks and provide practical engineering advice to support day-to-day rail operations.

Working closely with production teams and stakeholders, you will carry out inspections, audits, and work planning that align with KiwiRail’s Asset Management and Business Plans. Your work helps ensure our infrastructure meets standards, risks are managed well, and asset data remains accurate and up to date.

 

Ngā pukenga e rapu nei mātou | What you will bring:

You bring a practical, safety-first approach and enjoy working both in the field and with data. You will also have:

  • Experience in job planning, estimating, or civil and asset engineering environments
  • Knowledge of engineering codes, standards, and their application to rail or similar infrastructure
  • Confidence providing clear technical advice to a range of stakeholders
  • Experience using asset management systems, with Maximo preferred
  • Strong organisation skills and attention to detail
  • A collaborative mindset and clear communication style
  • A current New Zealand driver’s licence and willingness to travel when required
  • Bachelor of Engineering qualification
  • Having worked in the rail industry would be an advantage.
