Come and join our awesome team here at the Mt Manganui depot. As a Team Leader you will ensure your team is suitably equipped and organised to carry out the various maintenance checks and repairs as set out in the Maintenance Plan to the standards required in the Mechanical Codes and Instructions, ensuring the rolling stock assets reliability and availability.


The Rolling Stock Asset Services (RSAS) group has overall responsibility and ownership for managing KiwiRail’s rolling stock assets, including but not limited to:


  • mainline and shunt locomotives
  • freight and specialist wagons
  • containers
  • passenger carriages
  • other rolling stock vehicles and equipment.


You will be leading a small team performing maintenance and repairs.

The Team Leader, leads and organises the team daily and liaises with Planners to ensure work progresses to required standards in a timely manner. 


You will guide and mentor staff, lead by example, take accountability for the team’s work and look for opportunities for improvement.  The Team Leader supports the Site Leader in achieving the site’s targets. 


To be successful in this role you will need:


  • Post trade qualifications: electrical, diesel, mechanical, automotive mechanic or similar
  • Front line leadership qualification or experience.
  • Experience in driving and leading change initiatives in rolling stock maintenance or another heavy industrial environment.
  • Familiarity with operational productivity improvements such as Lean and 6-sigma, and inherent belief in their effectiveness and value.
  • Knowledge of relevant Engineering specifications and sound engineering practices is desired
  • Current and valid Class 1 New Zealand driver’s license 
  • Strong focus on Health & Safety
