Position Description  

 

He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role: 

As a Digital Inspector within Network Services, you will use video images, measurement data, and outputs from automated track inspection systems to assess the condition of track and traction assets. Based at the Westfield Depot in Auckland, this role focuses on: 

  • Verifying defects identified by automated systems 
  • Rejecting false detections 
  • Identifying defects and trends not flagged automatically 
  • Monitoring equipment performance and acting when discrepancies arise 
  • Ensuring inspection systems are correctly configured and operating as expected 

This is a pivotal, technically specialised role that supports the future of digital rail maintenance. You will work closely with engineering teams, inspectors, and technology vendors, contributing to the delivery of high-quality, accurate digital inspections that underpin safe and resilient rail operations.

Ngā pukenga e rapu nei mātou | What you will bring: 

Essential: 

  • 3–5 years’ experience in track inspection or a closely related rail field role 
  • Strong knowledge of rail track components, measurements, and inspection standards 
  • Confidence interpreting video imagery, data, automated inspection outputs, and AI supported defect detection tools 
  • Experience analysing track component measurements and charts 
  • Sound computer skills, including Microsoft Office 
  • Certificate in Engineering, Electrical, or Track (or equivalent) 
  • A strong commitment to health, safety, and quality outcomes 

Desirable 

  • Knowledge of rail traction overhead power components 
  • Experience using asset management or ERP systems 
  • Familiarity with automated track inspection technology and data systems 
  • Background analysing video or still images to identify infrastructure defects
