Position Description

 

He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role: 

This job is about checking the condition of rail tracks and systems using digital tools instead of only physical inspections.

You would:

  • Confirm or reject defects identified by automated inspection systems
  • Spot issues that automation might miss using video footage and inspection data
  • Review inspection results over time to identify patterns, recurring issues, and emerging risks
  • Collaborate with engineers to improve how the technology detects faults
  • Make sure inspection data is accurate and flows into asset systems
  • Help teams plan maintenance and repairs using your findings

 

Ngā pukenga e rapu nei mātou | What you will bring: 

We are looking for a rail professional or someone with a strong technical mindset and a keen eye for detail who is interested in developing their capability in digital inspection.

You may bring:

  • Experience in track inspection or a similar rail infrastructure role (or a willingness to learn and develop in this space)
  • A basic understanding of rail track components and infrastructure systems, or the ability to quickly build this knowledge
  • An interest in working with data, digital tools, and automated systems
  • Strong computer skills and confidence using Microsoft Office applications
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment
  • A strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders

We are open to training the right person, including those with less direct rail inspection experience, who demonstrate strong aptitude, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.
