Position Description  

 

He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role:

Based at our Westfield Depot in Auckland, you'll play a key role in maintaining and repairing locomotives and rolling stock to keep our rail network moving.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out scheduled maintenance and repairs
  • Diagnosing faults and resolving mechanical issues
  • Conducting safety inspections and equipment checks
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records
  • Following established safety procedures and quality standards
  • Supporting yard operations, including shunting and piloting when required
  • This is a full-time, permanent role with a starting hourly rate between $31.42 -$34.76, depending on experience

 

Ngā pūkenga e rapu nei mātou | What you will bring:

  • Experience in heavy industry, automotive, rolling stock, or locomotive engineering
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Commitment to safety and quality workmanship
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment
  • Full Class 1 Driver Licence

Desirable qualifications and experience:

  • NZQA Level 3-5 Trade Certificate in Mechanical Fitting, Diesel Mechanics, or a related field
  • Relevant pre-trade qualifications
  • Welding certification (AS/NZS 2980 or ISO 9606.1)
  • F endorsement
  • Gantry crane unit standards (US 30072 and 3800)
  • First Aid certification
