We have a rare opportunity for a Traction Field Engineer to join our Network Services team in Auckland.

 

Your Role:

You will provide asset management, engineering, and technical support for the traction systems (overhead, substations, and bonding) within Kiwirail and also manage assigned key traction projects across the Auckland Network.

 

Reporting to the Traction Manager - Auckland Metro you will be responsible for quality assurance checks to ensure that work is completed accurately. You will also work with the team to ensure the programme of work is seamless and concise whilst looking towards improvement in processes and planning. 

 

Whilst the role is 70% office, 30% field work, you will be required to work one weekend and two to three nights shifts per month.

 

Your Skills:

You will be the kind of person who appreciates the value of working as part of a team and takes action to ensure the teams’ success.  You are a self-starter, able to work unsupervised and make sound and timely decisions understanding the wider organization, recognizing the impact and implications of decisions made. You will also have a good understanding of occupational health and safety and risk management requirements.

 

This along with the following will see you flourish in this role:

  • Tertiary electrical engineering qualification (electrical registration advantageous) with at least three years OLE and traction system experience in maintenance, construction, or engineering design/management. 
  • Excellent fault finder and problems solver who enjoys seeing things to conclusion
  • Experience in effectively planning and managing work for self and others
  • Solid understanding and experience of SCADA system setup with solid computer literacy skills and knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Excellent communicator, face-to-face, on the telephone, over the radio and in writing
