This team works hard behind the scenes to keep KiwiRail moving. They maintain and improve our vast rail network, playing a vital role in ensuring our services can run smoothly and safely. 

 

Your Role:

  • You will be working as part of the Traction team who enjoy spectacular views in the great outdoors while working primarily with High Voltage across the country of Auckland.
  • You will be involved with day-to-day operations of all Overhead Traction systems and associated equipment, including general traction equipment upkeep.
  • This includes maintenance, installation, restoration, and repair of Traction over-head line equipment that may include some substation work.

 

Your Skills:

 

  • You will be a qualified, registered Traction Line Mechanic (EWRB) with a current practicing license, or proven experience and willing to gain experience in a traction environment
  • You must be willing to gain experience in high voltage work
  • Experienced with Over-head maintenance and emergency breakdown repairs will be highly beneficial
  • Able to work at heights and work in all weather conditions
  • Have a current, clean, full New Zealand drivers’ licence - Class 2 or 4 is desirable
  • Reliable, enthusiastic and have a strong commitment to Health & Safety
  • Willing to be part of a callout roster to attend to emergency failures after hours
  • Rotational Shift work required (we offer paid overtime, night shift allowance, weekend public holiday rates)
  • The job involves working outdoors so you must have a reasonable level of fitness and is both physically and mentally demanding.  If you have a demonstrated commitment to health and safety, are meticulous and have exceptional attention to detail then this could be the perfect position for you 

 

You will also need to have:

  • Electrical registration OR proven experience essential
  • Willingness to gain registration as Traction Line Mechanic (EWRB)
  • A current Class 1 drivers’ licence, with Class 2, 4 or Forklift operating licence will be beneficial
  • Current first aid and CPR certificates
  • Successfully completed pole top rescue training
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel
