The Rolling Stock Asset Services (RSAS) group has overall responsibility and ownership for managing KiwiRail’s rolling stock assets, including mainline and shunt locomotives, freights and specialist wagons, containers, passenger carriages and other rolling stock vehicles.


Reporting to the Performance Engineer - Regional, the Reliability Engineer – Regional is responsible for engineering assistance to ensure reliability, availability and cost targets are achieved. This is a hands-on entry-level engineering role, in additional to assisting front-line teams to diagnose and repair technical faults, to analyse & report on in-service failures. The role also has a proactive element to provide technical up-skilling, resolve performance issues through engineering & process initiatives.

Not only will our ideal candidate be detail oriented, with great time management and planning skills, they will be able to work both autonomously and within a team.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or related discipline


  • Rolling stock maintenance experience with a supporting tertiary or trade qualification in engineering/mechanical maintenance.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and computer-based skills.
  • Strong level of customer service and communication skills
  • Proven ability to organize and prioritise tasks, be flexible and resourceful, proactive and professional in manner with a high degree of initiative
