He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role

As a Track Inspector, you’ll be responsible for auditing and inspecting KiwiRail’s track infrastructure. You’ll monitor safety and compliance, assess track conditions, and make recommendations for maintenance and repairs. Working outdoors in all weather conditions, you’ll conduct track inspections, monitor work quality, and respond to incidents when required. You’ll be a key part of a team dedicated to maintaining high safety standards and ensuring our network remains operational.

We’re looking for a safety-focused team player with:

• Experience working as part of a team
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• A solid understanding of engineering codes and track maintenance standards
• Proven experience in rail track inspection or construction
• The ability to work outdoors in all weather and at heights
• Strong communication skills and leadership abilities
• A willingness to travel and stay overnight when required
• A full, clean driver’s licence (HT Class 2 or willingness to obtain)

Desirable:

• Operational certification to work on railways
• Technical training relevant to rail infrastructure
• Familiarity with computer applications (e.g., email, office software, technical databases)
