Operations Manager – Southdown CT Operations
- Permanent, full-time, based at the Container Terminal in Onehunga, Auckland
- 40-hour week, 24/7 operations, 365 days a year
- Operational Safety and Leadership are key
The Operations Manager, Southdown, is a strategically important member of the CT leadership team responsible for ensuring the Terminal operates safely and efficiently at all times. This includes staff wellbeing, the environment, budgeting, overall performance i.e. scheduling, people and equipment readiness, trucks and train timeliness. You'll lead a team of 30-40 staff and be responsible for on-job performance, training, compliance, and personal development.
As a safety leader, you will champion KiwiRail safety health and wellbeing initiatives, promote awareness, vigilance and compliance at the same time develop, nurture and grow, a culture of making safety personal.

- You will manage hazards, safety inductions and incidents to ensure compliance is upheld according to health and safety regulations
- Oversee team performance and training through effective communication and efficient resource planning
- Develop long-term operational and safety plans and implement systems to gather performance data for continuous improvement
- Control variable costs, ensuring it aligns with budget targets and drives cost-saving initiatives to optimize financial performance
- Ensure standard operating procedures are followed, maintain on-time performance, provide necessary equipment, and communicate effectively with customers to meet service standards
- Oversee terminal operations, implement processes to enhance turnaround performance, and address specific freight requirements, including dangerous goods and refrigerated cargo
Ngā pukenga e rapu nei mātou | What (skills) you will bring:
- Proven leadership experiences in a container terminal or similar operational type organisation
- Minimum 5 years’ management experience
- Degree or relevant tertiary qualification
- Recognised professional in a specialist area with proven experience leading small to medium sized projects
- Ability to perform complex calculations and is able to analyse and interpret information
