KiwiRail has embarked on one of the most challenging, high profile, and unique construction programmes in a generation. We have committed to building two bespoke, greener, rail-enabled ferries, and new sustainably constructed port infrastructure in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington and Waitohi Picton by 2025.

We require a Project Manager with skills in the construction of large and complex Marine structures works to join us to add technical expertise, and programme knowledge, to these iconic, safe, sustainable terminal build projects.

 

The main purpose of the roles is assisting the Terminal Programme Managers and terminal delivery teams with effective leadership, procurement, and management of suppliers for the delivery of the Terminal redevelopments. This position is based in Picton.

 

You will be the primary delivery contact for the Marine works scope of the terminal redevelopment and have responsibility for facilitating constructability input into design and manage construction of the terminals around ongoing operations while ensuring delivery integration and interfacing of the works delivered by other contracted parties.

Key responsibilities:

 

  • Assisting in the development and monitoring of the terminals master programme
  • Assisting in the development of the terminal designs
  • Procurement activities including preparing tender documentation and negotiation
  • Developing project execution and management plans
  • Leading the development of robust and integrated construction sequencing plans
  • Managing interfaces and ensuring appropriate coordination with the project team, KiwiRail business units, and all external stakeholders
  • Updating and monitoring risk register, managing and reporting on budgets
  • Ensuring that the project team is resourced and has the capability to deliver

 

To be successful in this role, you will have:

 

  • 10+ years' experience working on complex marine and structure infrastructure projects, including piling, seawall, ground improvement, wharf, and bridge construction
  • Experience with project planning, programming, budgeting, risk management, and reporting practices to ensure overall commercial outcomes are achieved
  • Ability to work effectively and without detailed supervision in an ambiguous and changing environment
  • Experience in safely delivering complex projects while maintaining existing operations

 

As a highly experienced Project Manager, you will see the big picture and have the discipline and continually work towards this while dealing with short term distractions as necessary and without compromising attention to detail or accuracy.

 

Importantly, you will have excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to obtain buy-in from a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
