Lead the sustainability design and delivery for three new rail stations in South Auckland


Kiwirail is enjoying the largest investment in rail in generations. With significant funding granted to design and construct new railway stations in Drury, and a commitment to provide sustainable outcomes for our communities, we’re now asking for applications for a Programme Sustainability Lead to join our client-side delivery team.

This role is a key position within the multifaceted Drury Rail Stations (DRS) Programme to deliver three new rail stations in the Drury area of South Auckland, delivered by KiwiRail as part of the New Zealand Upgrade Programme (NZUP). The position is for a fixed term of 5 years

The Programme Sustainability Lead will lead the sustainability workstream within the Drury Rail Stations Programme utilising the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia (ISCA) framework and Infrastructure Sustainability rating tool.

This specialist position will play a pivotal role in delivering on KiwiRail’s commitment to deliver a more sustainable asset that will deliver quadruple bottom line outcomes during construction and across its life cycle. The role will be required to guide and advise on matters relating to effective sustainability practices within the Programme.


Key responsibilities


  • Leading the process for the Drury Rail Stations to receive Infrastructure Sustainability Council Australia (ISCA) ratings.
  • Ensuring that design and as built ratings are obtained for all stations, and the programme as a whole.
  • Driving the development and implementation of the Sustainability Management System, including review and continual improvement of the Sustainability Plan and Implementation Plan
  • Providing specialist sustainability advice and guidance to the programme team
  • Ensuring that timely reporting and analysis is provided on programme sustainability for insights to support decision and business improvement
  • Developing and implementing community education strategies



Your skills


  • 5+ years’ experience in sustainability for site-based construction
  • Experience using sustainability rating tools (IS and Green Star) and hold relevant accredited professional qualifications.
  • Experience with the IS Rating Tool in the development of design and as-built submissions
  • Experience with sustainability-related management systems
  • Knowledge of commercial and construction law.
