He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role
This is a practical, hands-on engineering role. As a Field Asset Engineer, you’ll manage a defined section of the rail network and take responsibility for its performance and safety.
Working closely with our engineers and delivery teams, you’ll:
• Inspect infrastructure and assess asset condition
• Review data, make recommendations, and plan maintenance activities
• Ensure track assets meet code and compliance requirements
• Prepare work orders and support field execution
• Provide technical input to renewals and upgrade planning
You’ll be part of a wider asset management team that values collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. The role includes regular travel across your area and some overnight stays.

We’re looking for a proactive and detail-focused engineer who thrives in a collaborative, safety-first environment.
You’ll have:
• A tertiary qualification in engineering is preferred (BEng, NZCE, or similar)
• Experience in civil engineering or infrastructure planning
• Understanding of asset management systems and principles
• Confidence using asset tools (e.g. Maximo, TSA, TQI)
• A strong commitment to safety, quality, and risk management
• Clear communication and the ability to collaborate across teams
It’s a bonus if you bring:
• Experience applying asset improvement initiatives
• Knowledge of rail codes, standards, and regulatory systems
