He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role:

As Internal Auditor (Safety, Health and Wellbeing), you will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of KiwiRail’s SHE Management System. You will lead audits that support continuous improvement, risk reduction, and compliance with critical safety controls.

This role involves reviewing systems, analysing operational data, and working closely with teams across the business. Your insights will help strengthen safe practices, support our people, and ensure our operations run reliably and efficiently.

 

Ngā pūkenga e rapu nei mātou | What you will bring:

We are looking for someone who brings sound judgement, attention to detail, and a collaborative approach, along with:

  • Experience in internal auditing, with a recognised Lead Auditor certification (ISO 45001, ISO 9001, or similar)
  • Knowledge of New Zealand safety, quality, and environmental regulations
  • Experience with risk-based auditing and digital reporting tools
  • Confidence engaging stakeholders and presenting findings constructively
  • A focus on continuous improvement and positive safety outcomes
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong planning skills and the ability to work independently

You will also have:

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant field (Health and Safety, Engineering, or Quality Assurance)
  • Five or more years’ experience in a compliance or safety-related role
  • A full New Zealand driver’s licence
  • Willingness to travel and pass drug and alcohol screening
