Position Description

 

He whakamārama mo te tūranga mahi | About the role: 

As a Linehaul Logistics Coordinator, you’ll play a critical role in building and coordinating freight and passenger trains across KiwiRail’s network.

Working as part of a fast-paced logistics team, you’ll be responsible for assembling trains, coordinating shunt movements, and ensuring our systems are accurate and up to date. You’ll communicate closely with operational staff, customer service teams, and yard teams to ensure freight moves safely, efficiently, and on time.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Building outbound freight trains, mainline shunts, and passenger services
  • Monitoring train movements and maintaining accurate system data
  • Providing timely operational information to field staff and stakeholders
  • Coordinating with internal teams to manage changes and priorities
  • Ensuring all activities align with KiwiRail’s Zero Harm safety culture

 

While aligned with a broader 24/7 operation, this role currently operates between 06:00–22:00 with some public holiday coverage (confirmed during the interview process)

  • Experience assessing customer or operational needs and planning effectively
  • Background in logistics, transport, or shipping (preferred but not essential)
  • Ability to multitask across multiple systems in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Confident communicator who can build relationships across teams
  • Intermediate computer and data entry skills
  • A collaborative mindset and ability to perform under pressure
