Title:  Cabin Attendant

Date:  17-Jun-2022
Location:

Wellington, KiwiRail Ltd, NZ, 6011

Business unit:  Interislander
Position status:  Fixed Term
Employment type:  Full Time
Level of experience:  Entry-Level

This is an exciting time for our Interislander operation. With a significant investment programme for new sustainable ferries and two new terminals, we are gearing up for a bright future.

KiwiRail and Interislander is embarking on a time of transformational change right across the business. We are rolling out numerous exciting new projects including the construction and delivery of two new ships and ferry terminals through the Inter-Island Resilient Connection (iReX) Programme and revamping our operational/customer service strategies and processes.

What does a Cabin Attendant do, you ask?

Well…as a Cabin Attendant on our Interislander ferries you will engage with the customer right from when they step on to the ship.  You will provide our customers with an exceptional experience whilst they are travelling across the Cook Strait by ensuring you stay focused and on your toes in a dynamic environment.

Whilst you are travelling the same route each time, no day on the Interislander looks the same.  One day you might be battling Wellington’s winds and you may be carrying predominantly freight, looking after the Commercial Vehicle drivers.  The next, it might be calm with no breeze and a ship full of passengers to cater to and ensure their crossing is a smooth one.

You will work on a walk-on, walk-off basis which means when you end your shift on the ship, you can go back to the comfort of your own home.  This would mean a Wellington home base would be beneficial!

We offer a salary of $55,604 per annum, pro rated for the period worked.  These roles are fixed term and are full time. The roles will go right through until April 2023 to ensure we have people on board to work during our busy season!

The first training intake for this role will start on 20 June 2022, and you must be available to complete the training course prior to jumping on board one of our vessels.

This role might just be for you if:

  • Are a student looking for summer work (you must be a minimum of 18 years old to be considered), in the hospitality industry looking for stability over the Christmas period, or just want a change in role and to work with a dynamic organisation
  • You like working in a role where you are  stretched every day, and where no day will ever be the same
  • Enjoy working within a team environment to achieve the common goal of impeccable customer experience
  • You have the ability to multitask and problem solving and can do these things on the fly if an issue was to arise
  • Would like to be part of a team that is crucial to the freight and passenger movement around the country - you will also be responsible for their wellbeing and making sure everyone is kept safe on their journeys
  • You don’t get flustered under pressure easily and can remain calm and focused in potentially stressful situations
  • Don’t want to take your work home with you – at the end of your shift, that is where your working day ends
  • Ability to deliver top quality customer service
  • You have a positive can-do attitude  to ensure customer needs are met

What do you need to do to apply?

It is pretty simple – you don’t need any previous experience or training; this will be done when you join us.  You just need to show us you have excellent interpersonal skills, your passion for learning, your resiliency and your impeccable customer service skills by clicking apply now!
