We are looking for a Contracts Manager to join this critical infrastructure Programme in Wellington for this permanent, full-time role.


Your Role:

This Contracts Manager role sits within our Wellington Metro Upgrade Programme and is an important position in the Commercial and Procurement Team.


The Wellington Metro Upgrade Programme is working to modernise the Wellington region rail infrastructure into a safer, more reliable, sustainable, and growth-enabled network for the benefits of our communities, stakeholders and KiwiRail. We do this by renewing network infrastructure for existing services and upgrading the network to improve service in the future.


This is a very large programme of investment packages to upgrade the Wellington Metropolitan Rail Network and has two key objectives – renewing network infrastructure for existing services and upgrading the network to improve service in the future.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Contract formation and administration, ensuring commercial aspects of contracts are set up correctly
  • Supporting the Procurement Manager in the preparation of tender and contract documentation
  • Evaluating tenders for contractors and conducting commercial negotiations where necessary
  • Reviewing cost plans, engineering estimates and QS estimates.
  • Ensuring that the supply chain is engaged appropriately with correct contract terms and conditions
  • Providing ongoing contract management and commercial input and support to the delivery team
  • Accurate and timely reporting of issues concerning cost and value
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with all internal and external stakeholders


Your Skills:

To be successful in this role, you will have proven experience in creating robust contracts for construction and design, which you will do in line with KiwiRail’s frameworks. You will also have extensive experience in procurement of suppliers/services and contract administration.


This is an important role within the Programme, and as such we are looking for strong experience working on large and complex infrastructure or commercial projects. Your experience will ideally include engineering of infrastructure projects within a construction environment.


You will have a high level of commercial experience in complex environments, as well as familiarity with current NZ Construction Contracts, including NZS3910.


Importantly, you will have excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills. You will also have outstanding written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
