Position Description  

 

He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role:  

Reporting to the Cyber Security Operations Manager, the Cyber Analyst plays a key role in protecting KiwiRail’s operational and information technology environments, with a particular focus on Train Control and Maritime/Ships systems.  

Working within a collaborative Cyber Security team, you will monitor and investigate security events, manage incidents and remediation activities, support continuous improvement initiatives, and help strengthen cyber security awareness across the organisation. You will also contribute to cyber security assurance activities and support the development of security policies, standards, frameworks, and processes. 

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Monitoring, investigating, and responding to cyber security incidents and anomalous events 
  • Managing remediation activities and enhancements to cyber security tools and controls 
  • Supporting automation and continuous improvement initiatives 
  • Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders 
  • Contributing to cyber security awareness, training, reporting, and risk assessments 
  • Participating in a 24/7 on-call roster

To succeed in this role, you'll bring a passion for cyber security, strong analytical skills, and the ability to build effective relationships across the business. You're comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and enjoy solving complex problems while balancing technical and customer needs. 

You'll have: 

  • At least 2 years’ experience in Cyber Security or a related field such as OT/ICS/SCADA, network administration, systems administration, or software development 
  • Experience and diligence working in highly regulated safety environments (e.g. electrical, transport, maritime, energy, or medical)
  • Knowledge of cyber security principles, frameworks, and industry standards 
  • Experience with, or exposure to, cyber security technologies such as LevelBlue, TrendAI, Trellix, CyberArk/Idira, Proofpoint, FortiSOAR, FortiAnalyzer, or similar platforms 
  • Scripting experience using Python, PowerShell, or similar languages 
  • Strong data analysis skills, with the ability to identify, investigate, and explain anomalies 
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a customer-focused mindset 
  • The ability to write clear reports, conduct assessments, and provide practical recommendations for risk mitigation and continuous improvement
