This is a senior leadership role, shaping how KiwiRail engages with New Zealand. As General Manager Stakeholder Engagement and Communications, you will:
• Lead enterprise-wide strategic communications and engagement, aligning to KiwiRail’s purpose and growth strategy.
• Build trust and strong relationships with government, regulators, media, iwi, community groups, and industry partners.
• Guide internal and external messaging to strengthen reputation, lift employee engagement, and support cultural change.
• Act as a trusted advisor to the Executive Leadership Team and Board.
• Lead crisis communications planning and response, ensuring clear and coordinated engagement during critical events.
• Build and mentor a high-performing team of communications and engagement professionals.
Your leadership will help ensure KiwiRail’s transformation is understood, supported, and celebrated across Aotearoa.
Ngā pukenga e rapu nei mātou | What you will bring
We’re looking for someone who can connect authentically, lead with clarity, and inspire trust. You will bring:
• 15+ years’ experience in communications, stakeholder engagement, corporate affairs, or related fields.
• Proven success influencing at senior levels, including Boards, Executives, and external partners.
• Experience navigating complex stakeholder environments, including government, regulatory, and unionised settings.
• Strong crisis and media management experience.
• Leadership skills that develop, mentor, and grow high-performing teams.
• A relevant degree in communications, public relations, political science, journalism, or equivalent experience.
