We are looking for a delivery focused Senior Project Engineer to join this critical Programme in Wellington.

Your Role:

This Senior Project Engineer role sits within our Wellington Metro Upgrade Programme (WMUP) team and is an important position reporting to the Delivery Planning Manager. It is a permanent position.

WMUP is a large programme of investment packages to upgrade the Wellington Metropolitan Rail Network and has two key objectives – renewing network infrastructure for existing services and upgrading the network to improve services in the future.

As the Senior Project Engineer, you will provide the technical expertise needed to successfully develop, plan, initiate and deliver complex infrastructure projects and work packages assigned to you.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist in the conversion of business cases and initial plans into achievable projects that will deliver KiwiRail’s future rail and investment strategies and that are fully scoped, approved and resourced with the right technical capabilities, in readiness for successful execution.
  • Provide information for input into and feedback on optioneering and design development and assist in gaining design and other approvals.
  • Assist with project set up, documentation, detailed planning and readiness for the design and delivery phases.
  • Assist with procuring detailed design and delivery work packages.
  • Project planning and delivery.
  • Providing technical leadership across development, design, build, completion, and handover stages of complex projects.

Your Skills and experience:

This is an important role within the Programme, and as such we are looking for strong experience working on large and complex infrastructure projects.

Your experience will include the relevant engineering experience within the construction environment, ideally with some rail experience. Design or design management and planning experience is preferred due to the early phase of some of the projects and exposure to digital engineering methods and tools will be valuable.

Importantly, you will have excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills. You will also have good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Your Benefits:

  • Competitive remuneration
  • Commitment to continued learning and development
  • Access to discounted travel, health insurance & holiday houses across NZ as part of our Staff Welfare Trust
