This is an exciting time for our Interislander operation. With a significant investment programme for new sustainable ferries and two new terminals, we are gearing up for a bright future.

 

KiwiRail and Interislander is embarking on a time of transformational change right across the business. We are rolling out numerous exciting new projects including the construction and delivery of two new ships and ferry terminals through the Inter-Island Resilient Connection (iReX) Programme and revamping our operational/customer service strategies and processes.

 

A bit about the role:

We currently have opportunities for Able Bodied Seafarers to join our team on a permanent basis, these roles will be on Walk on-Walk off rosters so you will need to be located in Wellington or willing to relocate. These roles will give you the experience to utilise your Maritime qualifications and certificates on one of New Zealand's most iconic ferry vessels.

 

An opportunity to further develop your skills in this field, you will also work alongside a range of maritime professionals, therefore building a strong insight into the industry. Duties will include:

 

  • Carry out cargo securing and marshalling duties,
  • Ship maintenance
  • Bridge duties
  • Mooring
  • All shipboard tasks as assigned or directed by the Bosun and Chief Mate.

 

You will also ensure safety requirements are implemented and adhered to while complying with Maritime safety standards.

 

What do you need in order to succeed in this role:

 

  • Valid STCW 10 Able Seafarer deck certificate or an ILO AB Certificate with a Maritime NZ STCW95 endorsement
  • Current Seafarers Medical Certificate
  • To maintain physical health and fitness
  • Demonstrate awareness and commitment to be safety conscious
  • Good communication and English language skills to liaise with other team members
  • Excellent work ethic and "can do" attitude

 

We have both Live on Board and Walk on Walk off roles available. The salary for a Live on Board position is $77,556 and Walk on Walk off is $77,325 per annum.
